The Highs and The Lows

First, the Highs. At the last minute I got a FREE ticket to the MU vs. KU football game. And it included access to a buffet beforehand. This was fantastic since tickets were selling in the $500 range.

As you know by now, MU won with an impressive performance and is ranked #1 in college football. They are in the driver’s seat for the national championship game. If they beat Oklahoma on Saturday in the Big 12 Championship game, then it’s on to New Orleans for the top prize.

It was quite an event. I’ve been to many big games at Arrowhead Stadium, but NOTHING came close to the chaos and frenzy associated with this game. I can only imagine that it was like the Super Bowl — I was at the center of the sports world for a few hours and it felt great. Our seats were in the KU section, which made the victory all that much sweeter. I went into the den of the enemy and emerged victorious! (Like I had anything to do with it!?!?)

Now, for the lows — Sunday was a different story. After leaving Arrowhead around midnight, I returned about ten hours later for the Chiefs vs Raiders. I fully expected the Chiefs to get back to their winning ways, but this season is just going in the wrong direction. The Chiefs — once unbeatable at home (they have won 90% of their home games since 1987) — have lost three straight and four total at home this year. To make matters worse, the Chiefs had beaten the Raiders NINE straight games and the Raiders hadn’t won in the division since 2004.

Oh well…you still gotta believe.
