New Hot Wings Champion

Taking down 7.05 pounds of hot wings in 12 minutes, a new world record, Joey “Jaws” Chestnut has earned the title of “TripRewards Ultimate Hot Wing Eating Champion” — and a much-deserved drink of water.

The event, which kicked off a summer promotion for the Wyndham Hotel Group, was sanctioned by the International Federation of Competitive Eating and held in Grand Central Terminal in New York City.

Chestnut, a 230-pound 23-year-old from San Jose, Calif., bested six other speed-eating stars, including runner-up Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas, who preyed on more than 6 pounds of hot wings, and Tim “Eater X” Janus, who took third with 5.38 pounds.

For every pound of hot wings consumed, Wyndham donated $250 to Food Bank For New York. In all, the contestants consumed a total of 30 pounds of hot wings, raising both the temperatures in their mouths and $7,500, which will provide more than 37,500 free meals for hungry New Yorkers.
