Eminent Domain Reform

I took the day off to help gather signatures to reform Columbia’s eminent domain laws, which allow the city to forcibly take property for the purpose of higher tax revenues.

It’s a slow process that lasts from 6am to 7pm. I’m amazed how many people know nothing about this issue.

Our proposal — which the city council would have to either accept or put it to a vote of the people — would not allow the city to sell or lease foreclosed property to a private entity for 10 years. You can read more at this website.

I was wondering if I could use this photograph as an educational tool. I am doing a lesson on the Bill of Rights and would love to use this image.
